The first patent relates to the 2-ply of cross biased tire cord reinforcement (more on larger sizes). This design allows for controlled expansion of the plug. As this plug inflates it gets larger in diameter and shorter in length. By changing the shape of the plug, the side wall stress is kept at a minimum.
